Tips for new parents

helpful hints for new parents and players

Welcome to the Bangor Brumbies Football Club

Thanks for joining us at the greatest football club in the Sutherland Shire!

Bangor FC is a small and friendly club. We hope you enjoy your football, make some new friends and have a lot of fun.

We’ve collected a few tips to help new parents and players get off to a flying start. If you have any further questions, please contact us and we’ll be glad to help you out.

Bangor FC playing fields

Bangor FC have two separate ground locations.

Our Junior teams play at Billa Road Oval (50 Billa Road, Bangor).

Our Senior teams play at The Ridge 1 and 2. (30 Recreation Drive, Barden Ridge – Off New Illawarra Road.)

Check our Ground Locations page for detailed maps.

The Sutherland Shire Football Association (SSFA)

The Bangor Brumbies are part of the Sutherland Shire Football Association, often referred to simply as the SSFA. The SSFA is the largest football Association of any code in Australia.

They manage football competitions for all ages. The SSFA website contains plenty of useful information including game times, competition ladders and wet weather updates.

MiniRoos

MiniRoos Club Football gives boys and girls aged 5–11 years old the chance to play small sided games of football on weekends.

With smaller fields, modified rules and fewer players it’s a more enjoyable game for young kids. They get more of a chance to touch the ball and score goals and they have more fun.

For MiniRoos teams please have your children ready in their uniforms and boots approximately 10 minutes prior to the kick-off.

Check out our Guide to MiniRoos Football for an overview of the key rules.

Your role as a parent

Always remember that kids want their parents to be involved and to be supportive of their football experience. They don’t want to feel pressured to perform and win at all costs.

Sometimes they just want to hear some positive comments from you about their attitude, sportsmanship or effort. Kids enjoy the game more when they know you’re supporting them.

Coaches and Managers

Each team requires a volunteer Coach and Manager. They will coordinate most of the communications with team members and parents.

Please update your manager or coach if your child is unable to attend training or games.

Play fair

Everyone wants to play well and have a good time. Remember to always play by the rules and never argue with officials.

Work hard for yourself and play as a team. That also means, listening to your coach and taking your turn on the bench.

And when the other team does well, be a good sport and give them a clap too.

Game times and locations

The time and location of all games is arranged by the SSFA. Check the time and location of your next game.

Home and away games

Each team from Under 6 and up will play both home and away games throughout the season. This means you’ll play every second game at Brumbies Home grounds (Billa Road or The Ridge) and every other game at various other clubs. Check the SSFA website for full listing of all the other Football Clubs’ Ground Locations in the Shire.

When you get to the other club grounds, it can be tricky to find your field. Each field has a clubhouse with a map of the field layout. This will help you to locate the smaller field that your MiniRoos or Junior team has been assigned to play on that day.

Parking

Parking at some fields can be challenging, especially early in the morning. Factor in additional parking time to ensure you make kick-off in time.

Training times

Teams will be assigned a weekly training time. Your Coach or Manager will let you know the time and location of your training session.

Wet weather

In the case of wet weather, your manager will update you on cancelled training and games as soon as possible. If you do not receive a notification, the games will proceed as planned. Check our wet weather page for more information.

Ground control duties

Each team is required to assist with ground control duties throughout the season. With tasks including field set ups and pack ups, barbeque duties and supporting with general ground control. Team managers will help provide notice on the requirements.
